South African hot spots such as Gauteng, Mpumalanga and the Western Cape have been increasing with heroin abuse. There has been a drastic increase in these areas to a point where the youth has forgotten about what is more important that to let one’s life go down the drain without accomplishing anything in life.
While alcohol is by far the most substance that is abused in the country, it has been mentioned that people are now moving to substance abuse such as drugs. This is a problem to this generation and the only way to prevent this issue is through education. People need to be aware of the consequences of alcohol.
Heroin is an illegal and the most highly addictive drug. It is processed from morphine, a naturally occurring substance extracted from seed pod of certain varieties of plants. Heroin is usually injected, sniffed, or smoked. Typically, a heroin abuser may inject up to four times a day.
Street heroin can also be cut with other poisons. Because heroin abusers do not know the actual strength of the drug or its true contents, they are at risk of overdose or death. Heroin also poses special problems because of the transmission of HIV and other diseases that can occur from sharing needles or other injection equipment.
Substance abuse is cause by a lot of factors such as peer pressure, growing up in different backgrounds, losing a member who is close to you and having a different way to deal with such situations, and also financial problems at home causing one not to be able to go to school and there are many more factors that can affect a person.
At times, we are surrounded by different situations or problems and one cannot deal with a lot of baggage which can lead to not being able to focus and needing to be at ease, till one uses substances just to ease off.
Consequences of Heroin include rush, pain, vomiting, bacterial infections, addiction, diseases and so forth. The youth needs to be informed and the government has to take over this problem, and help these young people to attend school be educated and have a brighter future ahead, because using drugs can cost you your friends, family and even your life. This young generation should know their worth.
